Kapeng barako is one of the most sought-after products in the province of Batangas. The Tagalog word "barako" means strong man or manliness while the word "kape" means coffee in Tagalog. The name for the coffee was termed due to the coffee's strong taste. Aside from this, the coffee has been used as a symbol for Batangueno's toughness despite different circumstances the province have been through.

Kapeng barako was first cultivated and grown in Lipa City and other high places of Batangas as well. It is also a part of Lipa City's history during the Spanish era. The coffee beans are believed to be brought to our beloved place by the Spaniards during the Spanish colonization era and since Lipa City is in a high altitude area, the city was able to grow good quality of kapeng barako beans.

Indeed, the kapeng barako has been a part of our province's culture and history aside from it being our province's trademark. Kapeng barako is best-prepared dip-brewed. Some people use brown sugar as sweetener while some prefer honey due to its health benefits. Kapeng barako is best served black.
